About This Site
Designed and Built by Students
This website was designed and constructed by students starting in the summer of 2011.
It was made using a combination of programs such as CoffeCup HTML Editor,
Adobe Photoshop CS5,and
FileZilla FTP Client. Every page of this website was planned and built in an effort
to have a smooth and organized navigation as well optimal functionality. The content of this website was reviewed and
updated thoroughly to remove outdated information and broken links. All of this was done to give the user a great experience at
FightingPi.org.
Coded from Scratch
Every page of this website was coded manually using the
CoffeCup HTML Editor. It functions using HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript to give the user an informative and interactive experience. Unlike some websites, this website does
not use any web or HTML templates. Everything that the user sees was created, embedded, or edited by a student.
In addition, all of our HTML complies with the W3C Standards for HTML 4.01,
proving that time was taken to ensure that every piece of code is fully functional across all major browsers.
Our website also complies with the 508 Standards (validated by Cynthia)
so that blind users with screen readers would not miss important information.
Student Managed
Unlike some websites that use an external Webmaster to upload files,
this website has both student and mentor Webmasters that can upload files at any time. Our Website Team uses
FileZilla FTP Client to upload new website pages, documents, and dynamic content.
In addition, we use Google Analytics and
Google Webmaster Tools to analyze how many visitors we have daily and what
language, browser, operating system, and Internet Service Provider our visitors are using. We also observe how our vistors found
our website, whether by direct URL, search engines, or a referral such as a link via email. Our team takes great care to make sure
our website is optimized and updated regularly.
Full of Resources
In order to encourage other teams to collaborate and innovate, we have spent countless
hours to collect useful bits of FRC knowledge for our Resources section of the website. This section features
resources for Mechanical, Controls, CAD,
Business, Website our Newsletters,
a Rookie Packet and Glossary of FIRST Terms to help rookie teams,
a Sponsor Packet, and a Business Plan Outline. We
have also compiled many useful Links. If you find something helpful that we don't have listed, let us know
and we'll add it!
Spreads FIRST
Our website features over 6 pages directly related to FIRST and its
programs. Our FIRST section features pages about FIRST, FRC, FTC,
FLL, Jr.FLL, and CARD. On these pages, any non-FIRST member can
find information about FIRST, its programs, and the past games specific to each program. In addition to these information-filled pages, our
website also features the FIRST logo on every page, linking our users to the FIRST Website. Through the
FIRST program, our team strongly believes that anyone can turn Pro.
Aimed Towards the Future
Our Website Team has a large collection of dynamic content still in development. Some examples in consideration are a new navigation menu format,
image maps, a dock menu for sponsor logos, countdowns, countups, a search bar, and much more. We look forward to adding this new content soon!
